I pulled this disgusting fully engorged tick off my cat’s eyelid the other day.

It is really important to be aware of these life-changing, disease-spreading pathogens.

Read up on precautionary advice for minimizing exposure to them, it’s really good mportant for your well being.

Looks like dog urine damage at first glance.

Symptoms progress into darkened then leafless sections.

Closer inspection reveals spots with tan centers and dark margins.

If you see this go cry for a while, recover composure, then proceed to dig up and destroy the boxwood. There is absolutely nothing to do about this disease. No cure.

So I texted him pictures of a few yesterday, sharing them with you.

Itea, summer flowering with intense red fall color.

Native American hydrangea- summer flowering. I’ve had these for years and they finally look awesome.

Amsonia hubrectii- full sun to full shade, self-pruning, deer proof, blue spring flower and school bus yellow fall color. No thanks to mums.

Weeping hemlock for full sun to full shade and everything inbetween

Leucothoe axillaris- full sun to total shade and everything inbetween. Evergreen, deer proof with maroonish new growth and fully maroon winter coloration if in full to part sun.

Non-poisonous sumac shrub. Looks like poison ivy without the itching. Glossy leaves turning zee best fall color of anything we sell, burning maroons, reds, oranges. Insect and deer proof. Full sun to part shade, tolerates poor soils.

Avondale redbud. Absolutely nobody grows this tree so I have to. Grows to ten feet tall with silver bark, vase-shaped upright canopy and flawless insect and disease-free leaves turning yellow in fall. Stunning hot pink flowers smother every inch of this tree in the spring for weeks.

Clethra alnifolia compacta. Full sun to full shade native wetland shrub with profuse white bottlebrush flowers in summer. Sweet scents fill the air when clethra flowers.

Lollipop azalea flowering with honeysuckle scent filling the air everywhere this plant is located. Very late flowering form of native azalea.

Hellebores are turning into one of my favorite perennials. These are almost thirty years old. Evergreen full sun to full shade, deer proof, flowers all winter sometimes. Sturdy leathery foliage is disease and insect-free.

Oak leaf hydrangea- summer flowering hydrangea with huge oak leaves turning deep maroon in fall and pineapple shaped huge flowers in June-July.
