Global warming!
Maine is the new North Carolina! I've been going there for years now and there's actually good surf there often. When there's teeny waves, we put the canoe in and surf the waves-it's hilarious! Kid in front wants to tip over, old fart in back doesn't. Sometimes no matter what you do you're gonna go in! Conservative concerned citizens lying bored on the beach sometimes call the cops to decry the tourists about to drown in their canoe- but it's all good and lots of fun. Most of the time those teeny waves ain't so teeny, especially when you're going fifteen miles an hour sideways and tilting at a titanic angle. It is pretty much like Hawaiian outriggers and it takes skill not to crash not to mention getting out past the breakers in the first place. Higgins beach, Maine. Everyone there seems like family. Surf at dawn. Surf under the moon. Look around and see the sturgeon jump six feet out of the water. See no buildings, just trees. You really can't ask for more. Anyone who skis hard knows skiing east coast (rock skiing) prepares you for easy Rocky Mountain powder, steep and deep!
Same for surfing little crummy waves- skills you learn help you navigate huge surf later, and such is the case surfing east coast in summer. Its still one with nature, sun and surf and family, day trips to immerse in Mother Nature, get away from the rat race. Im sore and sunburned from last Sunday, just the way we like it! |
