tRUMP is still weakly constrained by a few remaining judges. This is one win for an environment that WE ALL OWN, not just amoral tRUMP’s totally corrupt republiCON donors.

More bad news

Nothing good, ever, about the environment, the climate, declining species.

The Washington Post, CNN, and the New York Times all do a great job informing the public, but NOTHING EVER GETS DONE by the tRUMP administration.

WHY?

Because his big donors sell OIL, Natural Gas, Automobiles, farm crops, etc. They give him big money in exchange for eliminating environmental regulations.

How can this be UNDONE with a fully corrupt republiCON congress and senate? It can’t be.

We either vote these criminals out of office or sit back and watch glaciers melt, insects/birds/mammals go extinct, and temperatures rise.

Doubtful of this scenario? Read through my posts or step outside. It’s ANOTHER 60f+ day outside, and it’s still FEBRUARY.

America ranks one place behind (you’re not going to believe this!!!) North Korea in Polluting the oceans with plastic.

Yup.

Out of 192 countries, Americans come in twentieth place for the worst polluters.

Yup, WE SUCK.

All this bad bad bad news. Are we bad people? Is capitalism good for Wall Street yet bad for the earth?

That is one conclusion one can come to.

What to do about it?

Connecticut fireflies

2/23/2020

When I was a kid- fireflies were all over the place at night in the summer. Not anymore.

When my current house was on the market, there were thousands flying all over the property. That’s one of the reasons I liked this house. Fireflies still here in those tremendous numbers? Not anymore.

Just like every other species on the planet, their numbers are quickly disappearing.

Here is a website for you to look at to help lure them back onto your property:

https://www.firefly.org/build-firefly-habitat
When I moved into this house, the homeowner had vastly neglected the maintenance of the property. The minute I moved in, I fixed that, and fixed it for years. I got rid of all the dead trees, rotting leaves, put in a huge lawn and put all the chemicals and food on that the lawn needed to look nice.

Turns out everything that I did to make my property look nice had killed off the fireflies. I had unknowingly destroyed the very thing I loved about this place.

Then one evening when I was mowing the lawn I noticed that in one area of my lawn as I approached, fireflies rose from the turf into the darkening sky.

“SHIT!!!”

I mowed everywhere else except that spot, and ever since have only mowed that spot in the daytime.

I researched the life cycle of the firefly, and realized that every single thing that I did for the looks of my property were causing the fireflies to decline. Since I no longer apply any sort of chemicals to my lawn, the firefly population has increased. I no longer blow leaves off the lawn in the fall because the leaf litter is where many insects lay their eggs. I’ll mow them over to the side of the lawn, and that’s where they stay.

The human vanity property, with highly manicured areas, is the enemy of the natural order, and the more you can tolerate the look of a more natural approach, the more of Mother Nature you will see inhabiting your life with you.

This doesn’t mean that your land is going to look like shit. It won’t. But you need to be aware of how nature works in order to coexist, and striking that balance will prove to be humanity’s biggest challenges if we are to see the end of the current century.

1/3 of species going extinct in the next 30 years. What are we going to do about this? ANYTHING?

This is the single most depressing article that I think I have ever read. I’ve noticed a difference in the weather since I was young.

This winter? No winter at all.

Summer highs are now unbearable.... So hot we often close early and go home.

My dog looks like these foxes.

When I saw this article, I was absolutely DISGUSTED.

The “winner” of this “contest” shot 38 wild animals for “fun,” then dumped the carcasses in the municipal dump.

BARBARIC.
Shooting wild animals just for the fun of killing? These people are PATHETIC.

Is your avocado purchase killing the monarch butterflies?

Letters to three grocery stores. I’m sure we will hear back from all three.

Consumers have a right to know if their purchase causes monarch butterfly extinctions.

Pick an environmental issue to look into. If it bothers you enough, try to do something about it.

Who knows if individual efforts make a difference in the scheme of things, but it’s worth trying.

TRADER JOE’S UPDATE:

I am EXTREMELY impressed with the short time it took for Trader Joe’s to get back to me. Quite a feather in their corporate cap.

The President of Trader Joe’s could not “certify” that his avocados were legit. He only assured me that they take great pains to buy from established, reputable growers.

Big Y said the same thing. No guarantees, only flaccid assurances that they “do everything they can do,” a phrase I find pathetic and suspect. Why can’t they GUARANDAMNTEE us???

Im never buying avocados again until a system is set up to GUARANTEE that my avocados are free of monarch butterfly blood.

With Stop and Shop, the jury is out. Stop and shop so far has been a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Four contact attempts, and not one response. Pathetic. Seems that the biggest grocery store on the east coast just does not give a shit.
