Foxglove evolved with bumblebees. Flower and pollinator designed by each other. If one goes, so goes the other.
Such depressing news, but most Americans DON’T GIVE A SHIT!
REALLY, I say. WTF???
All this started when Bush 2 was president. The attempts to regulate mercury emissions started then. Environmental stewards discovered the US dumped SIX TONS OF MERCURY per year into our atmosphere, mercury that always found its way into the food chain.
Mercury, even in the most microscopic amounts is a permanent resident in the environment and the food chain, never decomposing into inert ingredients. The resulting destruction within the environment is similar to radioactivity. Just as detrimental.
To humans, the biggest problems were in the womb and early life of babies’ brain development.
At that time, my son was in that stage of development, and I had to research which fish were ok for his mother. It’s STUPID to not know what’s OK TO EAT, and what’s not.
When the coal stack scrubbing technologies were proposed in a mandate-legislation, PATHETIC Bush responded that it would be “TOO EXPENSIVE “ to force struggling coal burning power plants to install scrubbers.
OK, Bush, too costly for your coal-magnate friends not to pollute. Cheaper, then, to send thousands of pregnant women and adolescent children to hospitals for lifetimes of medical care.
CHEAP ELECTRICITY and big profits in exchange for mental retardation of thousands of innocent children worldwide, and a toxic food chain and environment.
”FAMILY VALUES” was the RepubliCON mantra back then, which seemed to me to be insanely hypocritical of the GOP. What a con job on the American public that was!
They actually wanted us to believe that taking care of generations of sick people was a better course of action than NOT PUTTING THE MERCURY IN THE AIR IN THE FIRST PLACE. More confounding backwards logic from a immoral and illogical political party.
That was the pathetic BUSH-era approach.
In 2011, OBAMA passed legislation through that every single coal plant in the country has complied with. Scrubbers are in all the stacks. Toxic emissions are vastly reduced. All the burning plants are in compliance, and they are ok with that.
BUT NOW, our fearless leader wants the cleaner air regulations to be reversed so it would be ok to pollute more again.
I’m sorry, folks. You just CANNOT be a concerned environmentally aware citizen and be a tRUMP supporter at the same time.
The two just do not go together.

This delicious vegetable is responsible for the extinction of monarch butterflies.
DO NOT BUY THEM until the industry can certify them as being grown OUTSIDE of the monarch butterfly forests.
Full description of this issue- scroll down to my 2/10/20 blog entry.
When the HELL is tRUMP going to do something other than nothing??? He wants to sink the ship and take all of us down with him.

Stop and shop profits from monarch butterfly extinctions by selling blood stained avocados. Do not buy them until they certify them as coming from sound sources.
FOUR attempts at ascertaining the actual source of their avocados- NOT ONE REPLY.

tRUMP scoffs at global warming. Ten years from now, we will be putting him in prison. Too bad he isn’t there right now. The time to act on global warming is already behind us. We have destroyed paradise.

Mexican avocados are exterminating monarch butterflies- don’t buy them at BIG Y/STOP AND SHOP/TRADER JOE’S
It’s been a long time since I posted anything here. It’s ALL BAD NEWS. Nothing at all good anywhere on the planet with regards to species protections, global warming, extinction reversals.
The long awaited for impeachment was a bust, and now tRUMP is emboldened to wreak havoc on even more environmental issues.
But the issue that has gotten me to post environmental news again is the latest criminal enterprise south of the border, and its because of YOU AND ME!! We are driving the extermination of the monarch butterflies by buying AVOCADOS AND LIMES!!!
Big Y/Stop and Shop/Trader Joe’s all profit off of monarch butterfly extinction by selling blood stained avocados! DONT BUY THEM THERE or you fuel the extinction.
Big Y/Stop and Shop/Trader Joe’s all profit off of monarch butterfly extinctions by selling blood stained limes. When we buy these, we sponsor monarch butterfly extinction.
ABOVE- Avocados I stuffed for dinner a month ago, thought I was being a good steward by not eating beef. I never thought that avocado and lime production in Mexico, driven by American demand, is causing drug cartels to wipe out the trees monarchs overwinter on and rely on for their very survival, to plant avocados and limes. FOR YOU AND ME!!!
Stop and Shop’s line is called “Natures Promise,” as in Nature’s promise that when the trees are gone, the butterflies will go too.

Monarch adult in October at the nursery on a Wilson’s rhododendron. Feeding to gain strength for the 4,000 mile flight to the trees that aren’t there anymore because of humans. Because of illegal logging and avocados.
I’m ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED. Are you?
People like me do everything we can to protect and nurture these endangered species and all that effort is 100% negated, totally wiped away by the corrupt Mexican government. What are we supposed to do???
Dont buy their AMORAL dirty BLOODSTAINED crops!
Here is a glimpse of what I know about Connecticut monarchs. About OUR MONARCHS:
Sex on my blueberries last June 8th, 2019. What a rare sight, as rare as taking a photo of Loch Ness monster, Sasquatch skinny dipping in my pond, or pWesident tRUMP telling the truth. I’ve never seen any of the above.
Enough with the photos, I thought, as I realized that they need their privacy, just like everyone else!
It’s not long before we see little junior crawling around the Asclepias incarnata. I always thought it’s milkweed or Asclepias tuberosa that they prefer to plant junior on, but it’s not, it’s incarnata. One per plant usually so they have enough to feed on. VORACIOUS FEEDERS, and grumpy strong-willed caterpillars too.
Swallowtail butterfly cousin on Asclepias tuberosa.
Muddy puddle-loving swallowtail. They swarm all around our puddles all summer mining essential minerals from our mud. Tons of birds do too- especially the barn swallows. Puddles are really important for wildlife survival.
They also lay their eggs on Asclepias verticillata, but not as frequently... Probably because there is no escape from the sun.
Refuge from global warming 100f days at the nursery. Incarnata again, providing shelter.
It’s soothing just looking at this picture from last August/September. Cool protection from the sun. Smart insects.
They chew/sleep/poop. Chew/sleep/poop. They get toxins from these plants so that birds leave them alone. Asclepias genus only. Birds know that if they eat monarchs or swallowtails they’ll get sick, how do they know?
Do not tell me “it’s instinct.” What the hell is instinct? It’s a protein molecule buried inside their microscopic brains, a product of MILLIONS OF YEARS of evolution.
IMMEDIATELY prior to pupating, when they are nice and fat, they snip off the tips of the stems, about two inches below the top. I figure it’s to get cellulose for the pupating shell, and to stimulate new growth for the next larvae that will be eating the plant. These insects pretty much skeletonize the plants- only stems left sometimes, so that’s nice of them to trigger the plant growth stimulus that pruning results in!
The chrysalis develops without you noticing. Turn around for a microsecond and VOILA! Seems that they are located in the shade somewhere- anywhere!
Little gold spots- function unknown- adorn the chrysalis like Christmas ornaments on a tree. How can we not know the function? I thought humans know EVERYTHING!?!?
I surf all year long in Rhode Island and Long Island. In the fall, about 100-150 meters from shore, on perfect surf days (just after a storm with an offshore wind high pressure system), I’ll always notice monarch butterflies flying out to sea. WHY????? Sheer stupidity and absolute suicide, this human thinks.
But I’ve seen so many doing it for so many years, me thinks me figured it out. They ain’t stupid nor suicidal. They’re the recipients of millions of years of evolution.
I figured that they are flying to New Jersey, the HYPOTENUSE of the Rhode Island/New York/New Jersey triangle, saving hundreds of miles of flight time.
Preposterous, you say?
GENIUSES, I respond. But how the hell do they know to do this???
1. They wait for the high pressure systems.
2. They wait for the strong north wind.
3. They defy logic and fear and head out to sea towards a certain death, which isn’t a certain death at all, it’s a weather-sponsored wind-driven escalator towards Mexico.
My map illustrates my hypotenuse theory of east coast monarch migration.
This is the rest of their trip!
Lastly, for the very best documentary EVER about monarch butterflies, watch this PBS NOVA

Ahhhhh, Mexico at last. But where are the trees??? There’s five left, move over.
If you still buy Mexican avocados after reading this, well then, I don’t know what to say.
I called Stop and Shop AND Big Y AND TRADER JOES to ask them where exactly their avocados come from and none of them have gotten back to me yet. HOW LONG does it take to find out??? I’m really suspicious about this. I think they are hiding something.
Im going to turn on the heat tomorrow.
Ok, it’s tomorrow. This is where the avocados are grown:
AWESOME Big Y returned my phone call. They told me who they get their avocados from. I contacted them, and they told me who they get the avocados from. I just emailed them, and am waiting for an answer. This is what I wrote to them:
NewRochelle, NY distributor:
Stop and Shop- no return phone call. Yet.
I already know that I’m not going to get a straight answer from this co-op. They are going to tell me what we want to hear, that ALL THEIR GROWERS are above board and not part of the deforestation.
Big Y told me that LGS wrote them and said and I quote:
”while it is uncertain how much of an influence the cartels have on our avocado supply.......”
Additionally, LGS said, and I quote:
”Our supplier from Mexico is proud of the fact that where avocado production has resulted in deforestation, we have replanted 89,000 new trees.”
BIG FUKKKIN DEAL!
You cut down 600 year old trees and replant 4” seedlings??? I majored in forestry in college for a time, and know exactly how that all works. ITS A JOKE.
It is still unclear if major grocery chains sell blood stained avocados. Until it can be certified that they are innocent avocados, my boycott is in effect.
ANOTHER informative article-

“Humanity” as a word needs to change it’s definition.
The word HUMANITY needs to go from being a kind, caring, nice word to another completely different meaning-
HUMANITY- the act of barbarity, uncaring extermination of anything that gets in the way of greed-driven profits of selfish humans.
Below is the link to the contact inside Mexico that supplies American grocery stores with their avocados and limes, both grown on deforested monarch butterfly protected property. The drug cartels (also empowered by pot smoking Americans) have muscled their way into the avocado industry. When you buy avocados, you are financing the murderous drug cartels. BOYCOTT avocados until a system is set up so that you KNOW that your avocado purchase is not linked to monarch butterfly EXTINCTION. Otherwise, it’s YOU who is killing the butterflies. Indirectly.

The tRUMP administration has relaxed environmental regulations across the board, removed our country from the Paris climate accord, and opposed california’s Mileage and auto emissions laws, even taking them to court.
WHY is tRUMP doing these reckless things???
I’m getting into POLLINATOR PATHWAYS. What insects are endangered?
Here is an interesting website- really detailed!
