JACK JOHNSON ROCKS!
This is my third attempt at writing whatever it is that I want to say about how this song stirs emotions deep inside me, and how powerful Jack Johnson is as an awesome artist, fantastic surfer, and great example for the rest of us
When most people hear this song, they visualize it having to do with significant others- not me. My significant other is my son, my primary relationship.
Im divorced with one son in his mid-teen years. Instead of seeing him daily like it should be, I only see him for half of his life. It’s great when we are together, but when we are not, I have no idea where he is nor what he is doing, so that’s where this song for me is like my single parent syndrome theme song, tugging at my heart when I hear it.
If you have children who only live under one roof, good for you- I’m jealous, that’s the way it is supposed to be. Your kids are lucky. Advice- keep it that way.
If on the other hand you live like me, then you can hear this song again for the first time, know you have company in your half-life parenting world.
Never seen Jack surf? Look it up some time. If I remember I’ll put a video of him here later.
Hi, my name is
David Benjamin and I started swimming in Chappaqua, NY., swam for Badger swim team, Mercersburg Academy, NC State University, then Westport YMCA masters. I got bored of the ol' back and forth of competitive swimming and the high cost of skiing. Surfing took over and I never looked back.
